"The NHS in Wales is facing huge challenges and difficult decisions must be taken to make sure it can meet the needs of an ageing population. The downgrading of any hospital is rife with controversy and concern and this applies especially to both Withybush and Glangwili.
Although a new hospital in the Whitland area could bring many advantages to both counties I need to be convinced that patient safety will not be compromised by any consequent downgrading.
I hope we can approach these three options with an open mind and really understand what they mean for all of us so I encourage everyone to take part in the consultation to make their views known."
