Simon Hart MP has welcomed the news that more homes and businesses in and around Tenby are going to have faster broadband.

BT has announced that the Tenby exchange is being upgraded with copper lines which will create download speeds of up to 20 megabits per second (Mbps) – more than double the speed previously available.

"This is great news," said Mr Hart. "This area had the dubious honour that, out of all the constituencies in the UK, it was in the top ten per cent for having the most population and premises stuck in slow broadband speed areas.

"Hopefully this announcement will go some way towards addressing the slow speeds that many of us in rural Pembrokeshire have to put up with.

"Small and medium businesses (SMEs) - which make up 95% of all Welsh businesses – are at a disadvantage if they have slow broadband speeds.

"This improvement will be a huge help to those SMEs based in and around Tenby."
