Simon Hart MP has welcomed the commitment to rural communities shown in the Chancellor's Autumn Statement.
Improvements in transport and communications infrastructure and boosts for small businesses will give a boost to Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, says Mr Hart.
"The Government's new an active enterprise policy to help businesses expand and create jobs, with a £20 billion National Loan Guarantee Scheme, new tax breaks for investment in start-ups and cuts to red tape will be a big bonus for the small businesses which are the lifeblood of our rural economy," said Mr Hart.
"The scrapping of a proposed 3p increase in fuel duty in January means that this tax has been frozen for 19 months in total - a great help for rural communities where people have to rely on cars," added Mr Hart.
"Don't forget we inherited the highest deficit in the UK's history, as the Chancellor pointed out we are facing a "debt storm". But I am pleased the Government has also recognised it is important to drive growth in rural areas like Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire."
Other announcements included:
- Engaging with the Welsh Assembly Government on improvements to the M4 which would also improve links with the West,
- The possibility of a deal on tolls on the privately-owned Severn Bridges and investment in mobile phone technology to improve reception in rural areas.
"The measures such as better broadband, improved mobile phone services and especially the increased opportunities for business and enterprise will allow West Wales to compete for vital jobs and opportunities in the future," added Mr Hart.
