Simon Hart MP has welcomed the news that South Pembrokeshire residents will be able to keep on writing cheques for as long as they need to.
Speaking after a decision by the UK Payments Council to abandon a proposal to scrap cheques in 2018, Mr Hart said:
"I am very pleased to hear that common sense has won this argument. I know that fewer and fewer cheques are written each year but they are still a vital tool for many when it comes to paying bills.
"I think that they are especially necessary for older customers who would rather pay by cheque than by direct debit, via on line banking or over-the-phone banking.
"I would like to thank everyone who contacted me to make their opposition to this proposal known, especially the members of Pembroke Townswomen's Guild."
