Local MP Simon Hart is getting into the Olympic spirit after a visit to the Games' venue and is thrilled to hear that Carmarthenshire residents and schools are already doing the same.
"I recently had a fascinating tour of the Olympic Park, a lot of the venues are already built and the main stadium was breathtaking – it felt much more intimate that I thought it would.
"I was heartened to hear that so many county schools are already getting involved in the Olympics."
Twenty seven local schools are already signed up to the Olympics "Get Set" programme and it is hoped that nearly every school in Carmarthenshire will sign up before the start of the Games next July.
The "Get Set" education programme is being run by the Games' organisers and aims to involve youngsters from across the UK in the excitement of the Olympics.
"It's not just about encouraging youngsters to do more sport but aims to take the magic and inspiration of the Olympic spirit to classrooms and playgrounds and increase leadership and life skills," added Mr Hart.
Camarthenshire has also appointed 37 "Youth Ambassadors" for the Games - a Youth Sport Trust scheme under which youngsters are appointed to spread the word about Olympic values.
"I am delighted that Carmarthenshire is getting so wholeheartedly behind the Olympic Games," added Mr Hart, "even though we live a long way from London there is no need for us not to feel involved and excited about next summer."
