Tenby MP Simon Hart has welcomed the news that a "healthcare campus" looks set for the edge of town.
Plans to extend Park House Court Nursing Home with an extra 132 mixed tenure units for the over 55s and communal facilities were approved a few weeks ago.
But they now have to go to full council and the Welsh Assembly for final approval.
Mr Hart says the revolutionary campus concept should be welcomed.
"This is possibly the first time in Wales that such a mix of nursing home, hospital care and communal facilities have come together in one place and I think it is a brilliant one," he said.
"Not only is it due to employ 35 people but if it enables people to stay independent and living in an area they love then I think it should get the final thumbs up."
