Officers and staff were pleased to see South Pembrokeshire MP Simon Hart last Friday at Stackpole Mencap Gardens. Simon has joined Stephen Crabb MP as Joint Patron of the Society, and took a great interest in current and future plans for the Gardens, including the plans for a new shop, café and office the construction of which will start in April this year. He saw preparation for this years planting well under way with many young plants getting started in the greenhouse.

He offered his support to the Societies drive for more people with learning difficulties to attend the training courses at the Gardens and the need for greater publicity, which would increase visitor numbers.

"It's a number of years since I've been to the garden and it's really blossomed in that time," said Simon. "I was very impressed by its sheer size and it is obvious that a huge amount of hard work has gone into it. So many people pass it on the way to the nearby beaches and I would strongly urge them to make the effort to call in for a visit – Stackpole's Secret Garden is stunning."

The picture shows Simon receiving the Gardens new brochure which has been largely been paid for by a generous donation from Milford Haven Port Authority.

The Society will be opening the Gardens at Easter and Spring Bank Holiday for visitors and Sales of plants.
