Local MP Simon Hart has been watching young hopefuls hitting the target at the Army recruitment centre in Carmarthen.
He spent half a day at the Army Careers Information Centre in Lammas Street learning more about what new recruits go through to join the Force. Whilst there he sat in on interviews, watched a recruitment test and even had a go himself at one of the assessments.
"It's a long time since I was in the Territorial Army and I think I was a bit rusty to say the least," said Mr Hart. "But it was fascinating to meet young men and women from Carmarthenshire just starting out on what will hopefully be a long career in the Forces."
Mr Hart is taking part in the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme which aims to give MPs an insight into what life is like for their constituents who are in the services.
"I do have a tiny bit of experience of the camaraderie and intensity of Forces life but I am delighted to have the opportunity to learn more about the Army from the inside," he added.
Warrant Officer Nick Warren said: "Our office is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday or you can book an appointment if you need to see us out of those hours.
"We have got vacancies at the moment and are actively recruiting. There is absolutely no obligation if you walk through the door, you can just pop in for a chat.
"We are now running a "Try before you buy" weekend in early May where we will take people who are thinking about joining up to Brecon to spend a night out so they can see if Army life will suit them."
