MP Secures Debate On Importance Of Outdoor Learning

The importance of taking Pembrokeshire schoolchildren out of the classroom to learn will be debated in Westminster by local MP Simon Hart this week.

He has secured a Westminster Hall debate on the subject of outdoor learning and will be highlighting Pembrokeshire examples such as the Field Studies Centre at West Orielton and the National Trust's education scheme at Colby Lodge near Amroth.

"I am keen to stress how important it is for children to get an opportunity to learn somewhere other than the classroom - whether it's to museums like Scolton Manor, Forest School in Lampeter Velfrey or one of our many beaches or castles," he said.

"Having a long-standing interest in the countryside and seen at first hand how much benefit my children have had from visiting Forest School I want to make sure that it is fully appreciated."
