Villagers in Hebron can turn on their laptops and get superfast broadband but they can't turn on their taps and get mains water.
About 20 homes in the centre of the village near Llandissilio have never been connected to the mains supply. Instead they rely on bore holes and wells.
"It does seem amazing that in this day and age a community is considered big enough to get superfast but not to get mains water," says Simon Hart MP.
He is now working with local County Councillor Dorian Phillips to try to find a solution to the problem.
Cllr Phillips added: "I have been in touch with Welsh Water and there is no statutory duty on them to provide mains water and unfortunately we are looking at hundreds of thousands of pounds in cost to lay the pipes as the nearest main is about a kilometre away."
Villager Chris Maynard said: "At the moment everyone has to have their own supply, it's very haphazard and inefficient."
One of his neighbours has drilled a borehole at a cost of about £8,000. The neighbours have now banded together to sign a petition asking for help from Welsh Water.
Mr Hart added: "I am setting up a meeting with Welsh Water and Councillor Phillips to discuss options such as self-lay and we are also investigating possibilities such as a community borehole with local pump specialists."
